Sign up for the 15 for 7 CHALLENGE!

Could you live for a week on £15? That’s just over £2 a day. Sound difficult?

That is the reality for over 200 destitute asylum seekers living in Tyne and Wear right now

We are challenging you to get sponsored to live on £15 for 1 week to experience first-hand some of the many difficulties facing destitute asylum seekers living in the region.

From the 18th – 24th February we will be running our 15 for 7 campaign to raise money to support our projects supporting destitute asylum seekers. Don’t worry if the week we have chosen doesn’t work for you as you can do the challenge at anytime time to suit you.

“Now I feel like I am living like normal people. Before I was just surviving”
(Action Hosting guest)

Destitute asylum seekers have had their application for refugee status refused by the government and no longer receive financial support or accommodation. This extremely vulnerable group of people are entirely reliant on the support of charities and friends and subsequently are at severe risk of becoming homeless or open to exploitation to survive.

Local charities provide our residents living in Newcastle with £15 per week to cover all their daily living expenses including food, clothing, toiletries and travel.

£15 for 7 Challenge
We have set a target of £1,500 to be raised through sponsorships for this campaign. £1,500 will provide supported accommodation for a destitute asylum seeker for a whole year as part of our Action Housing project.

Everyone involved will receive plenty of moral support from the Action Foundation team. We are also encouraging all participants to keep a diary or blog about their experiences which we can share and use to highlight some of the difficulties experienced by our beneficiaries.

All sponsorships will be collected through our Virgin Money Giving page and there is no minimum amount to be raised.

Living off £15 for a week may not be practical for everyone who would like to be involved due to work or childcare commitments. However, we want as many people as possible to get involved so we are leaving it up to you to decide how you will spend your £15.

You might choose to try and feed yourself for £15 a week or include travel costs. Or really test yourself and cover food, travel costs and socialising!

The challenge will be hard but we hope it will expose you to the realities of surviving on such a limited budget and the difficulties facing over 200 destitute asylum seekers in the region. Plus you might even learn about some free activities happening in your area or some new low-cost recipes!

If you would like to sign up for this challenge or have any questions please call the office on 0191 2313113 or email
